In the 1930’s many “motor courts”, comprised of individual cottages or cabins, sprang up in New Hampshire to accommodate the new wave of tourists traveling by automobile. Some were very basic and others were more elaborate in design and finish. They were extremely popular for many years but gradually motels with several rooms in contiguous buildings became more prevalent. Motels were less expensive to build and more efficient to operate. Over the years most of the cabins and cottages have met their demise. Hearthside Village is one of the few “survivors”, attesting to quality and character of the original facility. It began in 1938 with a few cottages. There was a brief slowdown during World War II when people traveled less, partially due to rationing of gasoline and tires. As the war drew to a close, the remainder of the cottages was completed. These original sixteen cottages are much like they were over 60 years ago. Although they have had technical updates and have been well-maintained, the flavor of yesteryear is preserved. Do you like strolling down lengthy uninteresting hotel corridors to reach your predictably generic “cookie cutter” room? If so, Hearthside Village is not for you. If you are looking for a truly unique accommodation where you can park next to your room and experience a “piece of history” then Hearthside Village is where you want to be! When was the last time you checked out of your hotel and couldn’t resist taking “one last photo”? We see it everyday at Hearthside Village!
Our cottages vary in amenities. All have their own individual heat and hot water and bathrooms with showers only. Air-conditioning
units are installed in all cottages. Cable color television is also found in all of our cottages. Many have kitchenettes but all have at least a refrigerator. Most of the cottages have fireplaces in which we allow duraflame-type logs only (no wood fires).
These logs are available in our office at a nominal charge. Bedding varies from twins, 3/4's, doubles and "country kings". Most of our cottages are ideally suited for two people, however a few of our units can accommodate more.
To the dismay of some but for the comfort of many...
"NO SMOKING" is allowed inside any of our cottages.
Sorry, NO PETS are allowed on the premises.
On-site amenities include:
Swimming Pool, outdoor, 16'X32', no lifeguard on duty.
Hospitality Room with telephone and area maps and brochures.
Game Room with Ping-Pong, arcade games and soda machine.
"Kids Korner", indoor toddler play area stocked with toys.
Playground with swings, slide, etc.
Basketball hoop.
There is a picnic table beside each cottage and outdoor barbecuing is allowed. If you decide not to eat in, however, we are fortunate to have several excellent and reasonably priced restaurants nearby. Of course, there is also a selection of fast food. We are always happy to share menus and offer suggestions.

One of the "best kept secrets" is our Off-Season Rates!
We call it "off-season" because there are fewer tourists in the area. For many people, that is one of the best reasons to be here at that time of year. In 2008 the off-season runs from Friday, May 16th through
Thursday, June
19th and from Monday, September 1st through Thursday, September 18th. During the off-season you can save $10 per night/per cottage off our standard rates.
Conveniently located on Route 302 just one mile East of Interstate 93, Exit 40, Hearthside Village is within a short drive of all White Mountain Attractions. The Franconia Notch State Park with Cannon Mountain, Echo Lake, the Flume and the Basin is only 15 minutes away. The Cog Railway at the base of Mount Washington is 25 minutes away. No matter which activity you choose, staying at Hearthside Village is like having a home to come back to at the end of the day.
If you have any other questions, please call, write, or e-mail us for more information.
